Abstract
ABSTRACT Khoirunnisa, Zulfa. Student Register Number 12203183025 “An Analysis of Educational Value In “Twelve Years A Slave” Movie Directed by Steve McQueen”. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Departement. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah State Islamic University. Advisor: Dr. Hj. Ida Isnawati, M.Pd Keywords: Educational Value, Movie. Currently, technology has an important part of human life, including education. Supporting technology, all activities related to education are made easier. The purpose of education is not only to get achievement, but also to build on student character. Education builds character of students to better, students with good attitudes and positive thinking. The research questions of this research are: (1) what are the educational values in Twelve Years A Slave movie using Zaim Elmubarok theory? (2) how do the Solomon’s main personalities of the movie characters influence towards educational value in Twelve Years A Slave movie The purpose of this research are: (1) to analyse the educational values included in Twelve Years A Slave movie. (2) to know the Solomon’s personality of the movie character that influenced in the Twelve Years A Slave movie. The concept of educational value by Zaim Elmubarok is educational value find in the learning process and found from experience. Education aims to make human beings respect each other and form good people. Moreover, value education can be interpreted as Educare, or guide, direct, and lead. Education value also helps students to grow and develop into better and more valuable individuals. Zaim Elmubarok has classified into two group, there are value of being and value of giving. The value of being is honesty, brave, peace, self-confidence, potential, discipline, purity, hard work while the value of giving is loyalty and trustworthiness, respect, love and affection, sensibility and selfishness, humble and carrying, and fair and humanist. The researcher tells that this research uses the educational value theory by Zaim Elmubarok. The researcher used the library study qualitative method and analysed by using the process: (1) watching twelve years a slave movie in several times. (2) reading the movie script. (3) recognizing the educational value in the movie and analysing the main personality of Solomon Northup. The result of this research is: honesty, brave, hard work, loyalty and trustworthiness, respect, love and affection, and fair and humanist. Where honesty appears five data, brave appears one data, hard work appears seven data, loyalty and trustworthiness appear one data, respect appears one data, love and affection appear two data and fair and humanist appear one data. While the Solomon’s main personality in the movie character is hard worker. It’s because of this movie tells about Solomon wants to get his freedom after he kidnapped and became a slave. In this research, researcher want to remember of the meaning of educational value in the movie for all viewers. The researcher also bears in mind always to see what values or something important in the movies can be learned.
