Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic University Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr.Nany Soengkono Madayani. M.Pd. Keywords: Strategies, Vocabulary, Vocabulary learning strategies. Vocabulary learning strategy is one of the strategies for success that used by students in learning English. Therefore, vocabulary learning strategies mayimprove students’ learning to be easier, faster, enjoyable, and effective. Vocabulary learning strategies consist of 5 types, which are: determination, social memory, cognitive, and metacognitive. The focus of this research are: (1) What are vocabulary learning strategies used by students at SMPN 3 Kedungwaru? (2) How is the implication of those strategies towards their vocabulary mastery? The aims of this study are: (1) To know what are vocabulary learning strategies used by students at SMPN 3 Kedungwaru. (2) To know how is the implication of those strategies towards their vocabulary mastery. This research design in this study is a qualitative method. There were 7 students as samples. In collecting the data. The researcher used interview to collect the data. The result showed that Discovery Strategy and Consolidation Strategy are strategies that are often applied by students during the learning process of their vocabulary learning but only some of those sub- strategies are frequently used by students, as a conclusion, it can be identified that most students was tend to use two strategies. Furthermore, the dominant strategy of vocabulary learning strategies used by students was determination strategy and social strategy in learning vocabulary. By implementing this strategy, students can learn vocabulary regularly, improve their interpersonal and communication skills and help improve students' vocabulary mastery significantly.
