English Education Department. Islamic State University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. The 1st Advisor: Dr. Ida Isnawati, M.Pd and The 2nd Advisor: Dr. Sukarsono, M.Pd Keyword: Conversation practice, implementation, students’ speaking skill This study is motivated by a phenomenon that occurs in the realization of teaching speaking English by carried out English teacher in promoting of students speaking English at Al-Kamal Blitar. Al-Kamal Islamic Boarding School is well known for its good English program. One of the English skills studied intensively at this boarding school is conversation practice. Conversation practice is a talk between two or more people in which thoughts, feelings and ideas are expressed. It is a method of language education that encourages students’ speaking fluency improvement through daily communication. It aims to overcome several problems that students encounter in learning foreign language skill, especially in speaking. Conversation practice has been done in Al-Kamal Blitar to promote the students’ speaking ability. This study is interview to investigate on the implementation of conversation practice held to promote students’ speaking skill at Al-Kamal Islamic Boarding School Blitar. The formulations of the research problems are: (1). What factors contribute to the conversation practice in Al-Kamal Islamic Boarding School promote the students’ speaking skill? (2). How is the implementation of the conversation practice in Al-Kamal Islamic Boarding School to promote the students’ speaking skill? The research methods : (1) the research design in this study was a case study with qualitative approach, (2) the informant in this research was the English teachers (3) The techniques of data collection was observation, and interview, (4) To analyze the data, the researcher conducted some steps include data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings of the research revealed that the students’ speaking skills in English conversation can be promoted in some ways. Some ways in promoting students’ speaking skills through conversation practice there are affective factors (such as motivation, and confidence), performance conditions (time pressure, planning, standard of performance, and amount of support), listening ability, Topical Knowledge, feedback, and evaluation. Those ways are carried out by the teacher so that conversation practice can promote students' speaking. Besides, the researcher found that skill the implementation of conversation practice held at Al-Kamal Islamic Boarding School include 3 important aspects namely: material, media and technique. The teacher providing students’ handbook as printed material then, utilizing visual, audio and audio-visual as the media used in teaching speaking, and setting the techniques are used in teaching speaking such as discussion, interview, drilling and presentation (done in classroom) debates, roleplay, storytelling (done in general class); and the last is strategy that employed by Islamic Boarding School; rules (requiring all the students to use official language) and language programs (audio playback in the morning, language events, and memorizing the vocabularies everyday.
