Keywords: reading comprehension, summarizing technique, narrative text Reading is one of the most important skills in learning language because the success of students learning depends on the greater part of their ability to read. Someone will acquire knowledge and new information by reading. Even with reading someone can improve thinking and sharpen the view and add insight. The formulation of the research problem were: How can the students’ of reading comprehension at first grade students of MA Al-HikmahLangkapanSrengat be improved using Summarizing Technique? The purpose of this study is to improve students’ reading comprehension by using summarizing technique in narrative text of the tenth grade students of Madrasah Aliyah Al-HikmahLangkapanSrengat. Research Method: 1) the research design in this study was as Classroom Action Research, 2) Based on the purpose above, the problem of the research focuses on the student’s ability in using summarizing technique in narrative text, and the subject selection for this study is the students of grade X. There are 2 classes in Madrasah Aliyah Al-HikmahLangkapan. This study will select on of those classes, that is X-B class. XB class consisting 35 students: 13 male and 22 female. 4) the research instrument was test, 5) the instrument using observation sheet and test. The result showed that students’ score in reading narrative text before they are taught using summarizing technique was 8,5% or 3 students who passed. While the students’ percentage after being taught using technique was 91% or 32 students who passed. In other words, summarizing technique can be used as an alternative technique to improve reading comprehension narrative text to the students at senior high school level.
