Abstract

Keywords:Teacher Strategies, Overcome, Speaking Anxiety. Feelings of anxiety, fear, worry often arise in people who learn a second language, especially English. These feelings are considered to trigger negative thoughts that hinder public speaking performance using English as a second language. This is called foreign language anxiety. This needs to be addressed so that students have self-confidence and can achieve their full potential in learning, in this case, English. This research aims to find out teacher's strategies for overcoming students' anxiety in speaking English and to find out the impact that students get after teacher’s implement strategies for overcoming anxiety students in speaking English. The formulation of research and question were: (1) What strategies do teacher’s use in overcoming students' anxiety in speaking English at grade XI MA Hasyim Asy'ari Karangrejo ?(2) What are the impact of the strategies used by teacher in overcoming students' anxiety in speaking English at grade XI MA Hasyim Asy'ari Karangrejo from both the teacher’s and students point of view?. The study belonged to qualitative descriptive method with case study approach.Data collection applied in the study were doing interview. The qualitative data were analyzed by following the three procedures of data analysis, they were data condensation, data display, and drawing or verifying conclusion. The study revealed that (1) The strategies that teacher used in overcoming students anxiety in speaking English at MA Hasyim Asy'ari karangrejo are using constructive feedback, pair work and using students LI ( Indonesian mix English) (2) after teacher applied the strategy students feels more excited and enthusiastic in English class. They also feels comfort and confident to speak English.
