Abstract

This study aims to explore the perceptions of students of SMAN 1 Kauman towards the use of podcasts as a speaking practice tool. The focus is on understanding their perceptions towards the use of podcasts in language learning, identifying the specific benefits that students perceive, and uncovering the challenges faced in integrating this technology in language learning. This research aims to contribute to the understanding of the effective use of podcasts in improving speaking skills in language education. Using a qualitative approach, the researcher applied in-depth interview methods and documentation on English club members, to explore students' perceptions on the use of podcasts in speaking skills. The results from the study showed that students have positive perceptions as the use of podcasts as a speaking practice tool has increased students' confidence, motivation, and English proficiency. Despite facing challenges such as noise and topic selection, students overcome these hurdles by recording in a quiet environment and seeking inspiration from platforms such as YouTube. With the benefits of accessibility, diverse content, and enjoyable learning experience, students have a positive perspective towards podcasts as a self-directed learning tool.
