Keywords: K-Pop Fans, Alternative Universe, Learning English Vocabulary. Exposure to English language and terminologies on social media has provided individuals with opportunities to learn and practice English vocabulary in various contexts. For instance, using X (formerly Twitter) for vocabulary learning. There are various ways where X is used for learning English vocabulary, one of them is through fanfiction namely Alternative Universe (AU) as one of the content of posts on X. This study aims to evaluate the potential benefits of Alternative Universe (AU) usage for learning English vocabulary by examining K-Pop fans’ perceptions. The formulation of research problems were: (1) To what extent does Alternative Universe (AU) engage K-Pop fans in learning English? (2) How does Alternative Universe (AU) contribute to expanding K-Pop fans’ vocabulary? (3) How can Alternative Universe (AU) help K-Pop fans develop cultural awareness and understanding? This study used a qualitative descriptive approach to collect data. The method employed is a phenomenological approach, focusing on exploring participants' subjective perceptions on the Alternative Universe (AU) phenomenon on platform X. Data were obtained by using open-ended questionnaire in a form of online questionnaire on Google Form. The data were analyzed with three techniques, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that AU provides an immersive and enjoyable environment for incidental language learning, where readers are exposed to diverse vocabulary through compelling narratives involving their favorite K-Pop idols. Attractive appearance and format, easy to access, casual language style, and relatable story were also mentioned. Respondents noticed that reading AU not only introduces them to new vocabulary but also helps them develop a cultural awareness and understand cultural contexts related to English-speaking culture from idioms, slang, abbreviations, exposure to different cultural background, culture and identity portrayed, and cultural expressions from reading AU.
