Abstract
Wulandari, Winda Aprilia. NIM 126203211080. 2025. Students’ Perspective on the Use of Vlogs Toward Speaking Skills in Tourism Class of English Education Department at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Nany Soengkono Madayani, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: speaking skill, students’ perspective, vlog, tourism class. Speaking skill is one of the most essential aspects of English language learning, especially for students of the English Education Department, particularly those who joined in the tourism class, they are required to communicate clearly, confidently, and effectively in tourism class. In today's digital era, the use of media such as vlogs is considered as an innovative and practical way to help students develop their speaking skills. Vlogs allow the students to express their ideas, practice their pronunciation, and build confidence in using English in real and contextual situations. This study aims to explore students’ perspective on the use of vlogs toward the speaking skills in the tourism class. This research employed a qualitative approach using questionnaires and interviews. The subjects were 40 students from the tourism class of the English Education Department at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Data were collected through open-ended questionnaires and semi-structure interviews, then analyzed by identifying the main themes that emerged from the students’ responses. The findings revealed that the majority of students had positive perspective on the use of vlogs. Students’ believed that vlogs helped boost their confidence in speaking, improve their pronunciation, and enrich their vocabulary. Moreover, students felt that creating vlogs provided them with a more engaging, real, and enjoyable learning experience. However, several challenges were also identified, such as feelings of shyness, lack of self-confidence, and fear of making mistakes when speaking in front of the camera. Overall, vlog use was viewed as an effective media that supports the development of students’ speaking skills in the context of tourism class learning.
