Abstract

Sukma N., Anggi. Student Registered Number 126203211009. 2025. Correlation Between The Frequency In Reading English Textbook and The Vocabulary Mastery Of The Tenth Grade Students At MAS Al-Fattahiyyah Ngranti. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah State Islamic University of Tulungagung. Advisor: Prof. Dr. Erna Iftanti, S.S., M.Pd Keywords : Correlation, Reading Frequency, Vocabulary Mastery Vocabulary is a crucial aspect of language learning that supports students' ability to comprehend texts and communicate effectively. In the context of English as a foreign language, vocabulary mastery becomes even more essential for students to succeed academically. One of the key factors that contributes to vocabulary growth is the frequency of reading, particularly reading English textbooks. However, many students still show low interest and confidence in reading English texts, which may hinder their vocabulary development. This study aims to examine the relationship between students' frequency in reading English textbooks and their vocabulary mastery. It employs a quantitative research approach with a correlational design. The sample was chosen using purposive sampling and consisted of 30 tenth-grade students from class B at MA Al-Fattahiyyah Ngranti. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires and administering vocabulary mastery tests to the participants. The data analysis was conducted using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Formula with the help of SPSS version 27 to determine the correlation coefficient. The findings of this study revealed that the data analysis using the Pearson Product-Moment formula resulted in a significance value of 0.000, which is below the threshold of 0.05. This indicates that the null hypothesis is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient was found to be 0.683, which falls within the range of 0.6 to 0.8, signifying a strong correlation. Since the coefficient is a positive number, it reflects a positive relationship. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a strong positive correlation between students’ frequency of reading English textbooks and their vocabulary mastery among tenth-grade students at MA Al-Fattahiyyah Ngranti.
