Abstract
Nadia Amalia Sholikah (126203211052). The Effect of Using Spinning Question Media on Students’ Learning Outcomes in Writing Recount Text for 8th Graders at SMPN 1 Ngantru Tulungagung. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Writing is one of the essential aspects of language mastery and plays a significant role in the success of learning English. To improve students’ writing skills, it is important to provide interesting and creative learning materials so that students remain active, motivated, and engaged in the learning process. One of the learning media that can be used is Spinning Question Media, an interactive spinning wheel that contains five questions related to recount text material. This media encourages active student participation, improves writing and quick-thinking skills, creates a fun and dynamic classroom atmosphere, reduces writing anxiety, and offers a more student centered learning experience. The research question in this study “Is Spinning Question Media effective in improving students’ learning outcomes in writing recount texts at SMPN 1 Ngantru Tulungagung?” This study aims to determine the effectiveness of this media and identify any challenges during its implementation. This research used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design. The population consisted of all eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Ngantru Tulungagung, and the sample was class VIII-J with a total of 34 students. The data were collected using pre-tests and post-tests to measure students' writing abilities before and after the use of Spinning Question Media. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test with the SPSS version 25. The results showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted. This means there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results. The average post-test score was 75.15, which was higher than the average pre-test score of 58.97. This indicates an improvement in students’ writing abilities after being taught using the Spinning Question Media. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the use of Spinning Question Media has a significant and positive effect on improving students' writing skills in recount texts. Additionally, this media creates a more active and enjoyable learning environment and helps students become more engaged in the writing process.
