Abstract

The research titled "Bakhīl in Tafsīr Al-Ibrīz and Tafsīr Al-Azhar" was written by Elsa Mayora Hanafiah, Student ID 126301202068, under the supervision of Ali Abdur Rohman, S.Ud., M.Ag. Keywords: Bakhil, Al-Ibriz, Al-Azhar. In everyday life, a stingy or stingy attitude is often disguised as being frugal. Frugality is basically a positive action in the form of managing assets wisely and not excessively. However, the line between thrift and curmudgeon becomes blurred when someone uses the excuse of being frugal to refuse to share or help others, even though he has sufficient abilities. This phenomenon is increasingly complex in the modern era with the emergence of social media which encourages flexing behavior (showing off wealth) in order to gain social recognition and validation. On the one hand, there are individuals who show off their wealth excessively, while on the other hand, there are those who hide behind the concept of thrift but forget about social responsibility and empathy. This attitude is contrary to Islamic values which teach a balance between wise wealth management (frugality) and social concern. This research aims to understand the concept of hunks as explained in the commentary on Al-Ibriz by KH. Bisri Mustofa and Buya Hamka's Tafsir Al-Azhar, and examines the relevance of this interpretation to the phenomenon of snobbery in the modern era, including flexing behavior and thrift excuses. This research uses a qualitative method with a muqarran (comparative) interpretation approach, which compares the two interpretations. The data collection technique was carried out through literature study by examining the main sources (tafsir Al-Ibriz and Al-Azhar) as well as supporting literature such as books, journals and relevant articles. Through this research, it is hoped that an in-depth understanding can be found about the root causes of servile attitudes as well as spiritual moral solutions that can be used as guidelines in facing the challenges of modern life.
