Abstract

Siti, Nurdiana. Student’s Registered Number.126203212121. The Effectiveness of Using Short Video as Learning Media on Student Writing Descriptive Texts in the Eleventh Grade at Sman 1 Karangrejo. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty od Tarbiyah And Teacher Training. State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Arpinda Syifa’a Awalin, M.Pd. Keyword: Short Video, Writing Ability, Descriptive Text In English learning in secondary schools, one of the main competencies students must master is the ability to write descriptive texts. However, many students still struggle to compose coherent descriptive paragraphs, use appropriate comprehension, and adhere to descriptive text structure. The variety of engaging and contextual learning media is lacking. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using short videos as a learning medium in improving the writing skills of eleventh-grade students. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The subjects consisted of two eleventh-grade classes selected through purposive sampling: the experimental class, which received treatment using short videos, and the control class, which used conventional learning methods. Data were analyzed using a t-test to determine differences in writing skills between the two classes. The results showed a significant improvement in students' writing skills after the Application of short videos. The study concluded that the use of short videos effectively improved the descriptive text writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Karangrejo, particularly in terms of content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics.
