Abstract
ABSTRACT Novalianingtyas, Triana. Student Registered Number. 3213113153. 2017. The Effectiveness of Using Animation Film As The Medium In Teaching Writing Narrative Text of The Second Grade Students At MTs Aswaja Tunggangri Tulungagung In Academic Year 2016/2017. Thesis. English Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Nanik Sri Rahayu, M.Pd. Keywords: Effectiveness, Animation Film, Writing, Narrative Text. Writing is a complex activity for language learners, especially for EFL students. Based on the observation in MTs Aswaja Tunggangri, many students thought that writing narrative text was difficult. The teacher should know the appropriate techniques and media to promote the students’ learning. One of them is teaching writing through animated short film. Through watching the animated short film students can catch the idea of the setting, plot and the important thing is the moral value. Therefore, the students make their own story based on their imagination after watching the film. The formulation of the reseach problems are: 1) how is the students’ writing achievement berfore being taught using animation film as a media for the second grade students of MTs Aswaja Tunggangri Tulungagung in Academic Year 2016/2017; 2) how is the students’ writing achievement after being taught using animation film as a media for the second grade students of MTs Aswaja Tunggangri Tulungagung in Academic Year 2016/2017; 3) is there any significance different scores of the students before and after being taught using animation film as a media for the second grade students of MTs Aswaja Tunggangri Tulungagung in Academic Year 2016/2017. This study used quantitative approach with pre-experimental with one group pretest and post-test designed. The population of the research were all the students of eight excellent class at MTs Aswaja Tunggangri that consists of 72 students. The sample of this research is class of VIII B consists of 26 students that were selected by random sampling. Meanwhile, the instruments used in this study were pre-test and post-test. The data collected through pre-test and post-test were analyze by using Paired Samples T-test with SPSS Windows 16.0. The finding showed siginificant differences between the result of pre-test and post-test. The mean of post-test score (84.00) was higher than the mean of pre-test score (74.27). From statistical calculation, it was cofirmed that the value of t-count (8.329) was higher than t-table (2.060). Also, the way to test wether the null hypothesis could be rejected was by comparing p-value with the standard level of significance 0.05. The convention to reject the null hypothesis is when the p-value of the obtained statistic is less than 0.05. The finding showed that p-value was less than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). Thus, there was enough evidence indicating that the null hypothesis could be rejected, and it could be concluded that Animation Film was effective and it can be used as alternative media to teaching writing narrative text.
