Keyword : Effevtive, Reading Comprehension, Speed Reading Technique Reading is a crucial skill in the educational process. However, many students still struggle with low reading speed and limited comprehension. One technique appliedinthisstudy is speed reading, which is designed to help readers understand texts more efficiently. This technique incorporates skimming and scanning strategies to enhance both readingspeedand comprehension. The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of speed reading techniquesin improving the reading skills of third-semester students in the English Language EducationStudy Program at Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah State Islamic University, Tulungagung. Speedreading is expected to enable students to read faster while maintaining a good level ofcomprehension. Therefore, this technique is considered a useful instructional strategyfordeveloping students’ reading abilities. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental designwith a pre-test and post-test control group model. The data obtained fromthe pre-test andpost-test were analyzed using a Paired Sample T-test through SPSS version 26.0. Thepopulation of this study consisted of third-semester students of the English LanguageEducation Study Program at Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah State Islamic University, Tulungagung, with a total sample of 162 students. The findings of the independent sample t-test on post-test scores revealedasignificance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is lower than the 0.05 significance level. This result indicates that speed reading techniques have a significant effect on improvingstudents’ reading abilities, particularly in reading comprehension. Students who were taught using speed reading techniques showed greater improvement in comprehension comparedtothose who received conventional instruction. Additionally, the study found that speedreadinghelps students become more strategic readers by enabling them to identify key information, apply skimming and scanning effectively, and manage reading time more efficiently. Thesefindings support the use of speed reading as an effective instructional strategy for enhancingstudents’ reading skills, especially in the context of Islamic
