Abstract
Dina Kurnianti. NIM. 1860203221001. 2026. The Students’ Experience In Using YouTube Vlog Platform In English Class At SMAN 1 Tanjunganom. Thesis, Tadris English. Falculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Science. State Islamic Universiy (UIN) Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Ida Isnawati, M.Pd Keyword: Students’ Experience, YouTube Vlogs, and English Learning. The advancement of digital technology has significantly influenced English Language Teaching (ELT), prompting educators to incorporate authentic digital resources into classroom instruction. Among these resources, YouTube vlogs have become a valuable learning medium because they expose students to authentic English through real-life audiovisual content. By watching vlogs, students can learn natural pronunciation, vocabulary, expressions, and communication styles that are rarely presented in traditional textbooks. Despite these advantages, the use of YouTube vlogs may also present technical, environmental, and cognitive challenges that affect students' learning experiences. Therefore, this study was conducted to explore students' experiences in using the YouTube vlog platform during English lessons at SMAN 1 Tanjunganom. The research specifically examined three aspects: students' learning experiences, the technical and environmental challenges they encountered, and their cognitive accessibility when processing audiovisual content from YouTube vlogs. This study employed a descriptive qualitative case study approach involving eleventh-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were gathered through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive data analysis model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which consists of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that YouTube vlogs positively influenced students' learning by increasing their motivation, self-confidence, and engagement while improving their listening and speaking abilities through authentic English exposure. Nevertheless, students encountered several obstacles, including unstable internet connections, buffering, advertisements, notifications, and classroom noise that occasionally interrupted the learning process. Furthermore, students' cognitive accessibility was affected by the complexity of the audiovisual materials. Fast-paced speech and excessive visual effects tended to increase cognitive load, whereas the use of subtitles, appropriate video pacing, and active learning strategies supported better concentration, comprehension, and language acquisition. Overall, YouTube vlogs were found to be an effective authentic learning resource that enriched students' English learning experiences despite several implementation challenges.
