The Effectiveness of Using Wattpad Digital Stories As Learning Media on Students’ Reading Motivation At The Eighth Grade of SMPN 3 KEDUNGWARU. Thesis. The low motivation to read English texts among junior high school students in Indonesia represents a challenge in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learaning. This study aimed to examine the effect of using Wattpad digital stories on reading motivation of eighth grade students at SMPN 3 Kedungwaru, Tulungagung. The study was grounded in Guthrie and Wigfield’s (2000) multidimensional model of reading motivation. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi experimental non-equivalent control group design group The sample consisted of 60 eighth grade students divided into an experimental group, which used Wattpad digital stories, and control group, which received conventional instruction. Data were collected through a reading motivation questionnaire administered as a pre-test and post-tests. Data analysis included the Shapiro-Wlik normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, Pired Sample T-Test, Independent Sample T-Test, and N-Gain analysis. The results revealed that both the experimental and control groups experienced significant improvement in reading motivation based on the Paired Sample T-Test analysis. The findings indicated that students in both groups experiences an improvement in reading motivation after the instructional process. However, the improvement observed in the experimental group was not statistically different from that of the control group. Futhermore, the N-Gain analysis revealed that the level of improvement in both groups remainded low. Therefore, the study concluded that use of Wattpad digital stories did not produce a statistically significan improvement in students’ reading motivation compared with the conventional learning method.
