Keywords: effectiveness, STAD technique, grammar mastery In teaching English, grammar is considered the most important component. Without grammar, the structure of the language is difficult to understand. In learning language, people have to concern with grammar because it will help them in communication. One technique can be used in teaching grammar is STAD Technique. STAD technique is abbreviation of Student Teams Achievement Division. Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) technique is a cooperative learning which is consist of four/five students in each group and each group master the material from the teacher explanation. The formulation of this research question was is there any significant difference of grammar score between the students’ being taught with and without using STAD Technique? The purpose of this research was to know there is any significant difference of grammar score between the students’ being taught with and without using STAD Technique. Research method: 1) the research design in this research was quosi experimental research design with quantitative approach, 2) the population of this research was all students seventh grade at MTs Al Huda Bandung, 3) the sample was VII-C and VII-D class consisting of 31 and 25 students, 4) the research instrument was test, 5) the data analysis was using independent sample t-test on SPSS 16 for windows. The results showed that the students’ mean score in experimental group before use STAD technique was 32.8276 and the students’ mean score after use STAD technique was 78.3793. In the control group there is also an improvement mean score from 33.8000 became 53.2800. However, the improvement in experimental group was higher than control group. In addition, the result of the statistical computation used Independent Sample t-test with SPSS 16 for windows, showed that the significant value is 0.000. It means that the significant value is smaller than the significance level (0.000 < 0.050). The result of significant value indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is cannot be rejected. It means there was a significant effect of using STAD technique towards students’ grammar mastery. In other word, STAD technique can be used as an alternative technique to teach grammar to the students at Junior high school level.
