Abstract

Key words: English Community Program, English Teaching and Learning. English is an International language. In Indonesia, it is as foreign language. In education context, people learn English for understanding literature and communication. Education has important role in human life because education is useful to increase and develop human knowledge and skill.and the effort how to develop English competence must be priority now for SNBI. Many junior high school create strategies to develop their competence, automaticaly, mastering English is needed and create community is another way in teaching learning strategies to develop their capabality and skill. This study investigated on the activities of English community program (ECP) at SMPN 2 Kauman Tulungagung. The research problem of this study is “How is the process of English teaching and learning in English Community Program of Smart English Community at SMPN 2 Kauman Tulungagung?”. And the objective of research is “To describe the process of English teaching and learning in English Community Program of Smart English Community at SMPN 2 Kauman Tulungagung”. This thesis arranged base on data use qualitative approach. The method of collecting data used was observation, interview, and documentation. And then those methods will be analyzed by inductive. The Research findings were the English Community Program. The purpose of teaching and learning of ECP is to make group and community, so the students will be able to improve and developed their ability, and also the students were hoped to be able to communicate by using English in their daily conversation. The teaching methods used in ECP were a combination of Grammar Translation Method, Direct Method, Audio-Lingual Method, and Communicative Language Teaching. And the method was applied by Story telling, memorizing vocabulary, reading aloud, dictation, discussion, debates, listening the cassette, drill, games, and speech activity. The materials used were based on the program. It consists of Grammar and structure, speaking, writing, vocabulary, listening and reading. The materials listening activities were taken from some cassette and English song. The materials for speaking and writing were based on the teachers' judgment. The Media available at ECP were audio media, visual media, and audio-visual media. The types of evaluation administered were oral test and written test. And the teacher do not have serious problem in teaching except variety intelligence and interested student in this program.
