Abstract

ABSTRACT Thesis with the title “ The teaching of Speaking at Paman Sam English Course and Camp in Pare Village Kediri “ is written by Deris Cahyo Pratomo guided by Dr. H. Nursamsu, M.Pd. and Dr. Hj. Ida Isnawati M.Pd. Key Words: The Teaching of Speaking, Paman Sam English Course English has an important role for learners to communicate in their daily life in globalization era and to develop their communication. Ironically, still many students cannot speak English well although they have learnt English from elementary school up to university. One of the problems why it is difficult for the students to understand English is because uninteresting teaching activity at school. So, to make teaching english more interesting and easy to understand, teacher should apply learning activity effectively Paman Sam English Course and Camp applies a good and interesting method for the learners. There are some games in this class in order to make the class enjoyable. It is a program designed specifically for students who want to learn to speak English intensively and structurally. This study investigates the teachers' learning activity used at Paman Sam English Course in Pare, Kediri. This study is conducted by using descriptive qualitative. This would help the reader to understand what was happening in the environment during learning activity. Moreover, the researcher was curious about the student’s motivation to join this course and the problem faced by the tutor and also the students at Paman Sam English Course and Camp . The participants of this study were all students at Paman Sam English Course. There are two techniques in collecting data in this research, those are observation and interview. The data analysis in this study can be broken down into three procedures; data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The result of this research shows that the teachers applied learning activity namely memorization, discussion, debate, speech, repetition drill, grammar game. Based on the result, it is suggested for the teachers to allow all the students to take active participation in the classroom, to make the students more engaged in classroom activities. For the future researcher, that they may try to find out how other strategies are applied in teaching English.
