Abstract
ABSTRACT Hamzah, Ardi Triono. Student Registered Number. 1723143015. 2021. A Study on English Teachers’ Professionalism at Islamic Junior High School 1 Tulungagung. Thesis. English Education Departement. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Faizatul Istiqomah, M. Ed. Keywords: Professional, English Teacher, Professional English Teacher In the process of teaching and learning English, the existence of teachers is very important in facilitating the teaching and learning process. In addition, the level of professionalism of English teachers is very influential for the learning process and learning outcomes. Based on the reason above, the author is interested in studying the professionalism of English teachers at Islamic Junior High School 1 Tulungagung. The formulation of research problems are 1) How is the professionalism of classroom teacher in the mastery of the material to improve quality of students learning at Islamic Junior High School of 1 Tulungagung?. 2) How is the professionalism of classroom teacher in using teaching methods and techniques to improve the quality of students learning at Islamic Junior High School of 1 Tulungagung?. 3) What are the kind of teaching methods and medias used by the teacher in teaching students at Islamic Junior High School 1 Tulungagung?. The study belonged to field research for the data were collected in the field. Meanwhile, the design in the study was descriptive since the study described the phenomenon of the practice of professionalism of the teachers during the teaching and learning process. The data obtained from observation, interviews and documentation. Observation method was used to obtain information about the teachers’ professionalism during with mastery of material and the use of teaching media research. The interview method was used to support the data about professionalism of the learning in the mastery of materials and was the use of media. Documentation was used to obtain data when conducting research as an archive. The research subjects were teachers who have taught English at Islamic Junior High School 1 Tulungagung. The results of the study indicated that 1) The teachers’ professionalism in the mastery of the material were reflected in a very systematic and creative practices. They covered providing the teaching material, understanding the kinds of materials appropriate to the students and organizing the materials. 2) The methods and techniques used by teacher had a lot of variation. It showed that the teacher has professionalism in teaching and able to handle the class and it made teaching and learning fun. 3) The methods used are Communicative Teacher Language (CTL) with some techniques like warm-up, dialogue, organizational, and discussion. Meanwhile, the media used was paper, video, and textbook. Based on the their research, the findings of the study can inspire the teachers to improve professionalism, one of them by increasing the level of education. In addition, the professionalism creativity ideas in the teaching process can increase learning motivation for students
