Abstract
ABSTRACT The thesis entitled “The Correlation between the Students Vocabulary Mastery and Their Learning Motivation toward Reading Comprehension of the Second Grade Student of Mts Sunan Kalijogo Mojo Kediri in Academic Year of 2020/2021” was written by Desy Lilawati Mansur. NIM. 12203173206, Advisor: Dr. Dwi Astuti Wahyu Nurhayati, S.S., M,Pd. Keyword: Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary Mastery, Learning Motivation and Correlation. Reading comprehension is the activity understanding what students read. Student can understand what they read due to several factors, such as vocabulary mastery and learning motivation. When the students’ have vocabulary mastery, they want be able to know anything they are reading and if student has good learning motivation, they will also understand what they read. The formulation of the research problems: is there any positive correlation between the student vocabulary mastery and learning motivation toward reading comprehension of MTs Sunan Kalijogo Mojo Kediri? The purpose of this study was to get whether there is correlation between the student vocabulary mastery and learning motivation toward their reading comprehension of MTs Sunan Kalijogo Mojo Kediri. Research method: 1) the researcher uses quantitative approach and the research design is correlation research, 2) the population of this research was the second grade student of MTs Sunan Kalijogo Mojo Kediri in academic year 2020/2021, 3) 40 students from 1 class apllied purposive sampling as sample, 4) study instruments were test and questionnaire, 5) data analysis was applying Spearman Rho correlation. Result presented based on SPSS 23.0 state correlation between vocabulary mastery, learning motivation toward reading comprehension is 0,000 and value is 0.495 that showed the correlation has given. It concluded H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Well known, null hypothesis is rejected while significance is less than 0,05. The hypothesis testing concludes that N. Sig ˃ 0,05. The final result of this study was there is correlation between vocabulary mastery, learning motivation toward reading comprehension of the second grade student in MTs Sunan Kalijogo Kediri in academic year of 2020/2021 and the criteria of the correlation coefficient is moderate correlation.
