Abstract

During Covid-19 pandemic spreads across in this country, teaching-learning process should be conducted online. It requires the teacher to be more creative in selecting instructional media to students, especially in writing. One of the media that can be used is Short Cartoon Movie. The objective of this research is to know whether the use of Short Cartoon Movie is effective as alternative teaching media to improve writing narrative text ability on the tenth grade students of MA Ma’arif Bakung Udanawu. This research included in quantitative approach with Quasi-Experimental design, by using pre-test and post-test. The population of this research were the tenth grade students who major in MIPA of MA Ma’arif Bakung Udanawu. The researcher selected the sample by applying Random Cluster technique. They were X MIPA-5 which consist of 36 students as experimental class and X MIPA-4 which consist of 36 students as control class. The experimental class was taught by applying Short Cartoon Movie as treatment, while the control class was taught by using conventional method. The researcher used test in the form of essay as instrument of research to gain the data. After the data were gained, the researcher analyzed it by using Independent Sample T-Test by SPSS 16.0 for windows. The result of normality testing of score in post-test showed that the experimental class had the value of 0.200 and the control class had the value of 0.156. The result of both of class were higher than 0.05 it indicated that both of them were normal. The result of homogenity testing of score in post-test showed that the value of 0.499 and it was higher than 0.05. It indicated that both of class having homogeneous varience. The result of T-Test using Independent Sample T-Test by SPSS 16.00 calculation found the significant score (sig. 2-tailed) was 0.000 and it was lower than 0.05. It is interpreted that H0 stated there is no significant different score in writing narrative text of the students taught by using Short Cartoon Movie and those taught by using conventional method is rejected. Meanwhile the H1 stated there is significant different score in writing narrative text of the students taught by using Short Cartoon Movie and those taught by using conventional method is accepted. In a nutshell, it can be interpreted that the use of Short Cartoon Movie is effective to improve students’ writing narrative text.
