Students’ Perception Toward English Learning Videos on YouTube as Learning Media in English Education Department at State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Thesis. English Education Department. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. H. Nursamsu, M. Pd. Keyword: Perception, Learning Media, Independent Learning, YouTube English is a foreign language that take an important role in globalization era. It showed the important of English to be learnt for non-English speaking countries. Indonesia is one of non-English speaking countries as the first language who have determined their own rules for students to have opportunity in learning English. The opportunity gets an English lesson in Indonesia is obtained through education sector in the classroom with teacher guidance and instruction. However, the limitation of time learning and the lack of culture regarding English language made students need more time to study or practice outside the classroom, this activity is called independent learning. Hence, there were several ways and sources that can be used by the students, one of them is by utilizing the existence of technology such as English learning videos on YouTube. It was caused YouTube has become top three from the most frequently used websites by the students according to Anderson (2006). The formulation of the research problems are (1) How do the students perceive English learning videos on YouTube as learning media for independent learning? (2) How do the students perceive English learning videos on YouTube as learning media for increase language skills and language components?. The researcher used descriptive study by using qualitative approach. The method of data collection of this research were survey questionnaire and semi structured interview. The data of this research were the answers from the result of survey questionnaire and interview responses from the selected students. Next, the subject of this research were the students of English education department at State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung in academic years 2021–2022 by certain criteria. The criteria from this research is students who use English learning videos on YouTube as learning media. While for the subject of interview, the researcher took based on their survey questionnaire who can help to develop the research. In analyzing the data, the researcher used data condensation, data display, and drawing and verifying conclusions. To gain validity and trustworthiness, this research used triangulation. In addition, the researcher also showed the informants score in course accordance to this research. The result was found that students were able to create their own learning atmosphere outside the classroom. Based on that perceptions, English learning videos on YouTube is capable become one of the best learning media for students of English education department.
