Abstract

Diah Mulia Wati, student number registration 12203173176. Authority Relationship Revealed in the Directive Acts Performed by the Character in Mulan Movie, Department of English Language Education (TBI), Faculty of Tarbiyah Teacher and Training, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Tulungagung 2021. Supervisor : Dr. H. Nursamsu, M.Pd. Keyword: Directive Acts, Authority Relationship Language style is a variation that a person uses to communicate with others that shows an authority relationship between one another. The purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship of authority in the directive acts performed by the characters in the film Mulan. The writer identifies language style and directive acts in this research. The researcher uses qualitative research with descriptive type of research as an approach, directive speech theory by Searle, and language style theory by Joos. The research was conducted to collect data in the form of observation. The data in the study were in the form of a script for a film entitled Mulan. The results of this study, the authors found four types of direct speech in the film Mulan, namely orders, requests, questions and advice. In this study, five types of language styles were found that are in accordance with Joos' theory, namely frozen style, formal style, consultative style, casual style and intimate style of the five styles of language found, consultative and casual styles are the most dominant used in the study with the same percentage.
