Abstract

Keywords: teaching, English, method, technique, media, evaluation English is an international language, which must be mastered by the students. Mastery English is important to be successful in the globalization era to achieve good ability in speaking. Teaching speaking must covers some good aspects, those are materials, methods, media, strategy, and evaluation in teaching process. Thus starting point from those survey and statements, it encouraged the researcher to conduct the research about a study on teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu. Since this, the students of this school has high achievement in speaking English. The formulation of the research problems were: 1) What materials are used in teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu? 2) What methods are used for teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu? 3) What media are used in teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu? 4) What strategies are used on teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu? 5) What is the evaluation in teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu? The purposes of this research were to: 1) Find out the materials in teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu, 2) Find out the methods used for teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu, 3) Find out the media on teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu, 4) Find out the strategies on teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu, 5) Find out the evaluation in teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu Research Method: 1) Research design of this research was descriptive design with qualitative approach, 2) Subject of this research are English teacher and eleventh graders of Science of SMAN 1 Boyolangu, 3) Data in form of information are gotten from interview transcript, lesson plan and syllabus, and some photos, 4) Data collecting method is by using interview guide, observation guide, and documentation, 5) Data analysis by using inductive analysis method. They are data reduction, data display, drawing conclusion or interpretation. The result showed that The teacher materials used in teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu is based on the topic and Curriculum from which is suggested by the government. The methods used for teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu used some technique Communicative language teaching, Total physical response, and Audi Lingual Method. The media are used in teaching English at SMAN 1 Boyolangu such as, internet (for example Google, VOA, ABC), video, picture, magazine, handbook that uses English Zone published by Erlangga and Intan Pariwara as work book and which contains with the lesson in the classroom in order the students easy to understand the lesson.The strategies on teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu are oral interview, story retelling, and role-play. The evaluation that used in teaching speaking at SMAN 1 Boyolangu is oral language assessment.
