Abstract

Aisy, Kayla Diva Rihadatul (2024). The Effectiveness of Using Wordwall Towards Students Vocabulary Mastery at Seventh Grades of MTs Darussalam Rejotangan. Thesis. English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. H. Nursamsu, S.Pd.I, M.Pd. Key words : Student’s vocabulary, vocabulary mastery, wordwall One of the most important components to teach students while studying English as a foreign language is vocabulary. Students with a limited vocabulary will struggle to comprehend the material in school. They are less interested in studying English and become apathetic in class. Therefore, in this modern age, English teachers can try innovative and engaging media to teach vocabulary, such as the Wordwall, to make the English learning process more interactive and enjoyable. This research was conducted at Mts Darussalam Rejotangan Tulungagung. This study investigates “Is there a significant difference in scores between seventh-grade students of MTs Darussalam Rejotangan who are taught with interactive Word Wall and without interactive Word Wall on their Vocabulary Mastery”. This research aims to measure the effectiveness of Wordwall on students' vocabulary mastery. This research used quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design. The participants were divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. The population in this study was class VII which amounted to 60 students. The researcher used purposive sampling to select the sample for this research. The teacher provided two classes (groups) as samples: an experimental class of 20 students and a control class of 20 students. Data collection techniques used pre-test and post-test. Then the data was analyzed using the independent sample T-test formula for hypothesis testing. The findings show that Wordwall is effective in students' vocabulary mastery after using Wordwall. From the data, it can be seen that the average post-test score in the experimental group is higher than the average post-test score in the control group. Then the results showed a Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.001 less than 0.05. Based on data analysis and hypotheses, the calculation results show that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. This shows that there is a significant improvement in students' vocabulary mastery. It can be concluded that Wordwall can improve the vocabulary mastery of seventh-grade students at MTs Darussalam Rejotangan Tulungagung. It is suggested that teachers use this media while teaching to support students who struggle with vocabulary mastering in English learning.
