Teaching Reading Procedure Text Using Contextual Teaching And Learning (Ctl) For 8 Graders Of SMPN 2 Sumbergempol Academic Years 2016/2017. Thesis. English Education Program Departement Of Islamic Education State College For Islamic Studies (Iain) Of Tulungagung. Advisor: Keyword: Reading, Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach, reading, Procedure text. English has four skills to be mastered, they are speaking, writing, listening and reading. One of those skills is reading. Reading is one of the ways to get information and build knowledge from text. To understand the contents of the text, the students faced many problem. Therefore, as English teachers we have to be able to find an appropriate technique in teaching English. In this case, the use of certain technique for teaching is needed. There are many techniques of teaching, one of those is Contextual teaching and learning approach, the approach helps teachers relate subject matter or content to real world situations and motivate students to make connections between knowledge and its applications to their lives. The researcher tries to use Contextual Teaching and Learning Approach to teach Procedure text at the third grade students at SMPN 2 Sumbergempol, procedure is written to explain how something is done, in a series of sequenced steps. The problem concerned in this research is: 1. How does the teacher use Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach in teaching reading procedure text 2. What are the student’s perspectives after they are taught by using Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach? Purpose of this study are: 1. To know the application of contextual teaching and learning in teaching reading procedure text by the teacher. 2. To know student’s perspectives after they are taught by using Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach. Research design of this research used Qualitative research design by presenting the data in the descriptive way. Data source of this research is English teacher and the students on third grade student at SMP N 2 Sumbergempol. Methods of collecting data of this research are interview, observation and questionnaire. Technique of data analysis which is descriptive qualitative, there are three activities to analyze data in descriptive qualitative research. Those activities are data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification The result showed that the teacher applied the five principles of CTL in constructivism theory appropriately. The students enjoyed learning and motivated in reading by using the five principles of constructivism theory from CTL approach. Thus, it is recommended to teachers to use the principles of CTL approach in teaching reading in order to make the students are interested in learning reading.
