Keywords: Effectiveness, Inside Outside CircleTechnique, Speaking ability . Narrative speaking is one of parts of speaking that must be master by the tenth grade at state Senior High School. In narrative speaking, students should be able to narrate a story in detail. That is the students should be facilitate by a technique that can improve their vocab and also give them opportunities to speak. Feedback is also needed to support students’ speaking. One of the technique that can be applied to facilitate students’ narrative speaking is Inside Outside Circle Technique. Inside Outside Circle Technique an activity that the students practice speaking in pairs in two concentric circle. And then, they can they can rotate their position to face different partner. Inside Outside Circle Technique offer the students more oppotunity to practice narrative speaking by using their own word. Consequently, the students can improve their vocabulary and speaking ability. Inside Outside Circle Technique also help the students to correct their grammar and pronunciation because in this technique the teacher give feedback on their grammar and pronunciation. In addition, in this technique involve students to move. So, this activity make them not bored in narrative speaking learning. The purpose of this study was directed to verify whether Inside Outside Circle Technique was effective used in teach narrative speaking at state Senior High School. The formulation of the research problem was: (1)How is thestudents’ narrative speaking score taught by using Inside Outside Circle Technique? (2)How is thestudents’ narrative speaking score taught by using Conventional Technique ? (3) Is there any significant difference score on speaking between the students’ taught by Inside Outside Circle Technique and those taught by using Conventional Technique ? Research Method: 1) the research design in this research was quasiexperimental design with quantitative approach, 2) the population of this research was all students (248) of tenth grade at SMAN 1 Rejotangan Tulungagung, 3) the sample was XIPS-4 class consisting of 24 students and XIPS-3 class consisting of 25 students, 4) the research instrument was test (pre-test and post-test), 5) the technique of data analysis used Independent Sample T-testin software SPSS v.16 for windows. The result shows that in experiment class the students’ mean score in narrative speaking is 60.08. Meanwhile, in control class the students’ mean scorenarrative speaking is 49.12. From the result, the student’s mean score taught by using Inside Outside Circle Technique in exsperiment class was better than the students’mean score taugh by using Conventional Technique in control class. Besides, the result of t-test at significance level of 0.05 shows that significant value (sig. 2 tailed) was 0.000 smaller than 0.05 ( 0.000 < 0.05 ). Therefore, Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that there was significant difference score on narrative speaking between students taught by using Inside Outside Circle Technique and those taught by using Conventional Technique. In conclusion, using Inside Outside Circle Technique is effective for teaching speaking of tenth grade at SMAN 1 Rejotangan Tulungagung.
