Abstract

The background of this research is the result of field observations, student's knowledge of geometry still belong to the category of medium and low. This is evidenced in the results of tests and interviews. Students in solving given by the researchers were confused. Students having difficulty in visualizing the object into a different form, orient objects on the appearance of a different perspective, and also rotate the object and determine the relationships between objects with one another. It is included in the discussion of spatial ability students. The purpose of this study was to describe the level of spatial ability of students based on their level of mathematical ability is high, medium, and low in solving the wake-up material side room flat, This research was conducted using qualitative approach, data sources were students in grade VIII SMP Mamba'unnur Bululawang, and as a data source 6 students. Data collection techniques used is from the results of tests, interviews, observation, documentation. Data analysis technique used is the analysis of qualitative data with data reduction steps, display, and conclusion. Analysis of the data used is by 1) the present data, 2) to compare data from the results of tests and interviews that have been made against the students, 3) concluding data. The results showed that in the class of artifacts only students with spatial capabilities with category and low category, with a total percentage of 50% for both groups. Students with spatial ability group was only able to complete two of the three questions given problem, while students with low spatial ability group was unable to resolve the problem perfectly. This is because students do not master the material geometrical particularly flat side beams and cubes, and the lack of practice in working on a story in the form of the material.
