Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Muh. Basuni, M.Pd. Key Words: Teacher Talk, Speaking English as the second language in Indonesian that must be learn by the students in the school. In teaching English language the teacher should understand about the English lesson and also the way to addressing the English material easily to the students especially in teaching speaking. In the previous study of teacher talk the teacher always still dominated than student’s opportunity to speak. That is why studying teacher talk in English speaking class was interesting. The formulation of the research problem were: 1) What type of teacher talk are used by the teacher in teaching English Speaking class in the second grade of science major 2 at MAN 2 Jombang? 2) What are the teacher’s reasons to use certain teacher’s talk during teaching learning process? The purposes of this research were: 1) to describes the types of teacher talk are uses by the teacher in teaching English Speaking class in the second grade of science class 2 at MAN 2 Jombang. 2) to describe the teacher’s reason to uses the certain type of teacher’s talk during teaching learning process. The research method: 1) the research design of this study was descriptive design with qualitative approach, 2) data source of this research was English teacher as the subject and related documentation, 3) the method of collecting data was observation and interview, 4) technique of verification was triangulation, 5) technique of data analysis was data reductions, data display and conclusion drawing. The results of this research showed that the teacher preferred in use type of teacher talk asking question and aimed to make communicative class. Giving information aimed to give the explanation about the material. Giving direction aimed to control the class activity. Repeating student response aimed to make sure the student’s correct answer. Praising and encouraging aimed to motivate the students and give their spirit in learning. Using ideas of the students which aimed be improve the student’s knowledge. Joking that aimed to make build the students enjoy in learning. Correcting without rejecting , and correcting students response it was aimed that teacher giving some evaluation and feedback to their the students. In use the types of teacher talk the teacher should use it wisely, because teacher talk is the important element in teaching and learning process that should mastered by the teacher.
