The Effectiveness of Think Aloud Strategy Toward Students’ Reading Descriptive Text at the Tenth Grade of SMK ISLAM 1 Durenan Trenggalek. Thesis. English Education Department. Keywords: effectiveness, Think Aloud, reading skill The study reported in this article used Think-Aloud to examine the comprehension strategies by native speakers of English and nonnative speakers. Thus, they may be more aware of how they solve the problems they encounter as they read. If their reading is poor they are very likely could get failed in their study or at least they would be difficult to make progress. If they have a good to ability in reading, they would have a better chance to succeed in their study. The formulation of the research problem was “Is the think aloud strategy effectiveness in students’ reading descriptive text skill at the tenth grade of SMK ISLAM 1 Durenan Trenggalek?” This research design is Quasi-experimental with quantitative approach. The population of this study were all of the tenth grade students of SMK ISLAM 1 Durenan Trenggalek. The samples were X OTKP 1 class consisted of 24 students and X MM 2 class consisted of 40 students. The research instrument was test, and the data analysis was using Independent-Sample T-test. The finding showed that Think Aloud strategy was effective used in teaching reading at tenth grade of SMK ISLAM 1 Durenan. The effectiveness of Think Aloud can be shown in the following points: 1) the mean score of students on pre-test taught by using Think Aloud Strategy was 75.21, and the mean score of post-test was 88.38. The gain of the mean score was 13.35. 2) the mean score of students on pre-test taught without Think Aloud Strategy was 69.38, and the mean score of post-test was 78.83. The gain of the mean score was 6.82. 3) the result of t-test at significance level of 0.05 showed that the significant values (sig 2 tailed) was 0.00 smaller than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05). The result means that there is significant different in reading of the students taught by using Think Aloud strategy and those without taught by using Think Aloud strategy. So, of the explanation above could be summarize that Think Aloud Strategy very effective toward the reading skill of the students.
