Student Registered Number. 17203153107. 2019.The Effectiveness of Using Annotating Text Strategy to Students Reading Comprehension of The Second Grade of Mts Ma’arif Bakung Udanawu. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungaguing. Advisor: Dr. Erna Iftanti, M.Pd. Keyword: reading comprehension, Annotating text, recount text. Reading is an important skills in language teaching. The students can get the information and knowledge. Sometimes, the students find out some difficulties when read the text, like difficult words and they feel bored. The researcher used strategy for teaching reading comprehension to motivate the students in teaching reading. The strategy is Annotating Text Strategy. The research problem in this research was: Is there any significant difference on the students reading comprehension before and after being taught by using Annotating Text Strategy at the second grade of MTs Ma’arif Bakung Udanawu?. The method used in this research is quantitative approach with preexperimental design which means there is only one experimental group here. The population of this research was the second grade of Mts Ma’arif Bakung Udanawu consisting ten classes ( A, B, until J ). The sample was H class consist of 38 students. The research instrument was test ( pre- test and post test ) were analyzed by using Paired Sample T- test with SPSS 18.00 version for windows. The result showed the mean score in reading compehension before they are taught by using Annotating Text Strategy ( pre test ) was 35.53 while the student mean score in reading comprehension after they are taught by using Annotating Text Strategy ( post test ) was 80.79. The significant value was 0,000 an significant level was 0,05. It means the null hypothesis (Ho) which state that there is significant different score of the students reading comprehension ability before and after taught by using Annotating text strategy of the second grade at Mts Ma’arif Bkung Udanawu Blitar was rejected. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) which state that there is no significant different score of the students reading comprehension ability before and after taught by using Annotating text strategy of the second grade at Mts Ma’arif Bkung Udanawu Blitar was accepted. It means that using Annotating text strategy was effective use in teaching reading comprehension on recount text
