Abstract

The Effectiveness of Using Oral Presentation Technique toward the Thai Students’ Speaking ability at Institute State Islamic Tulungagung. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Pd Keywords: Effectiveness, Oral Presentation, Speaking. speaking is the most difficult skill in English learning. At English department of IAIN Tulungagung have a lot of Thai students who study English. It is not easy for them to study English in non-native speaker country. Most of Thai students have problem in learning English and do have low basic in English skill. Mostly, it is caused by inhibition of feeling afraid or shy, lack of confidence, and they do not know what they should say. Then, the researcher chooses the alternative solution is oral presentation technique toward the Thai students' speaking ability The formulation of this research problem was: “Is there any significance different before and after using oral presentation technique for Thai students' at of Institute State Islamic of Tulungagung?”. The purpose of this study was “To find out the different students' speaking ability before and after using oral presentation technique” Research method of this study was pre-experimental design with quantitative approach. The population of this research was the fourth grade for English Department at Institute State Islamic Tulungagung. While, the sample was the fourth grade of Thai student English department to be a sample that consist of 10 students, there are 5 male and 5 Female by means purposive sampling. The research instrument of this study was speaking test. The data collection through one group pre-test and post-test were analyze the data by using Paired Sample test with SPSS 16.0 version. The result showed that the mean score of students’ speaking skill before being taught by using oral presentation technique was 66.80. The highest score in pre-test was 77 and the lowest score was 60 and the mean score of students’ speaking skill after being taught by using oral presentation technique was 77.70. The highest score in post-test was 91 and the lowest score was 71. In addition, the result of t-test showed that the significant value is 0.000. It means that the significance value is smaller than significance level (0.000<0.05). The result of significance value indicated than null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means there is significant difference score of students’ speaking skill before and after being taught by using oral presentation technique. It can be concluded that, oral presentation technique is effective toward the Thai students’ speaking ability of the fourth semester at Institute State Islamic Tulungagung.
