Abstract

Key Terms : Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), Students Achievement English is one of the international languages. It is considered as foreign language. It has many important role in developing science. To appreciate foreign language in education need some methods. One of the methods is Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). This study was focused on the effectiveness of using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) in teaching reading for the first year students at MAN Tulungagung 1. The research problem were formulated as follows: 1) How is the first year students of MAN Tulungagung 1`s achievement on reading before they were taught by using CLT? 2) How is the first year students of MAN Tulungagung 1`s achievement after they were taught by using CLT? 3) Is there any significant effect of using CLT on the student`s achievement at the first year student at MAN Tulungagung 1?. This study has purpose: 1) To know the score of students on reading before they were taught by using CLT. 2) To know the score of student on reading after they were taught by using CLT. 3) To find out if there is significant effect of using CLT on the student`s achievement on reading at the first year students of MAN Tulungagung 1. The design of research was experimental research one group pre-test post-test and used quantitative approach. The population of this study is the first year students of MAN Tulungagung 1. The total number of population is 409 students. The sampling of those study was purposive random sampling technique and the sample takes is X-J class that consists 41 students. The data collecting method and instruments are test and administering test. After the data was collected, t-test was used to analysis the data. The result of data analysis is 24,763 with the degree of freedom is 40 students, and the significant level 5% is 2,68. It means the Null Hypothesis is rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis is accepted. It can be concluded that “There is significant effect of Using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) in teaching reading on the student`s achievement at the first year students of MAN Tulungagung 1.
