ABSTRACT Priyanto, Bagus. Registered Number Student is 1723143023. 2019. The Effectiveness of Using Flashcard Toward The Eight GraderStudents’ Speaking Achievement at SMPN 1 Tanggunggunung.Thesis. English Education Program. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Tulungagung. Advisor: Nany Soengkono Madayani, S.S, M.Pd. Keywords: effectiveness, flashcard, speaking. Speaking as one of four English lesson competences, a lot of students not be able to speak fluently in the classroom. Many teachers try giving methods for build student speaking ability. But student think that speaking skill is very difficult to do because one of big problem is they do not understand what they will say to other people. This study give to students a good media for learn speaking, it is a flashcard. Flashcard is attractive media where can build learning motivation for students be able to follow lessons. The students to be order to creative for give their imagination while they look at the pictures then says based on their own words. The formulation of the problem were: 1) How is the students’ achievement in speaking before they are taught by flashcard media? 2) How is the students’ achievement in speaking after they are taught by flashcard media? 3) Is there any significant different scores of the students’ achievement in speaking taught before and after using flashcard?. This study have purpose to find out whether any significant or not effect from using flashcard in teaching speaking at eight grade students in SMPN 1 Tanggunggunung. The writer used quantitative approach to be more precise it in research design using preexperiment design. The writer choose purposive sampling as a sampling technique, it took 24 students from eight Fclass as a sample. Population took on all eight grade students at SMPN 1 Tanggunggunung. In data collection conducted a test as a research instrument in oral form and analyzed by using t-test formula in SPSS 16. The result findings from data analysis, it was found significant numerical was 0.000<0.05. The result proved that alternative hyphotesis was accepted and null hyphotesis was rejected. It concluded that there were significant differences between the results of the pre-test and post-test.These results indicate that use of flashcard had significant effect in teaching, so this media was effective for speaking learning media.
