Abstract

The Effectiveness of Dictogloss Technique toward Student‟s writing Ability in Recount Text at the Tenth Graders of MA Darul Hikmah Tawangsari Kedungawaru. Thesis. English Education Department State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Dwi Astuti Wahyu Nurhayati, SS.M.Pd. Keywords: effectiveness, writing ability, Dictogloss technique. Writing is becoming notable skills that should be reached by students in learning English. In addition, writing as a tool of communication that the writers can express an idea to convey what they feel and think through a good written. However, writing is difficult process to do by students in learning English. Thus, the interesting technique was needed to teach the students. The researcher is interested in finding out the effect of Dictogloss technique in teaching writing ability. The statement of the research problem was: Is there any significant differences scores on students‟ writing skills before and after taught Dictoglos technique at the tenth graders of MA Darul Hikmah Tawangsari Kedungwaru?. The research objective of this research is: To find out the significant differences scores on students‟ writing skills before and after taught Dictogloss technique at the tenth graders of MA Darul Hikmah Tawangsari Kedungwaru. The research method: The research design of this research was pre experimental design with quantitative approach. The population of this research is the tenth grade of students of MA Darul Hikmah Tawangsari Kedungwaru consisting of 4 classes. The sample of this research is class XB IPA consisted of 31 students; purposive sampling technique was used to choose the sample of the research. While, the research instrument of this study was test in the form of pre test and post-test. The technique of data analysis applied Paired Sample T-test with IBM SPSS 23.0 version. The research finding represented that there was improving score on the students‟ writing ability. It could be found in the mean of post-test score was 76.77. Meanwhile, the mean of pre-test was 60.81. It could be concluded that the mean of post-test score was higher than the mean of pre-test score. From the statistical calculation represented that the significant value was 0.000 was smaller than the significant level 0.05. It meant that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. So, it could be summed up that Dictogloss technique was effective and it could be applied as alternative technique in teaching writing.
