Abstract
ABSTRACT Ma‟rifah, Risqi. Student Registered Number 17203163148. The Practice of Teaching Speaking ofStudents Eleventh Grade at Santitham Foundation School Nakian Nakhon Thailand. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Susanto, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: Teaching Speaking, Strategy, activity English is one of international languages which is most widely used in all over the world. There are four skills that must be mastered in English, they are listening, writing, reading, and speaking. The most important one of them is speaking. The ability of English is measured by its result in speaking skill or oral communication. According to Thailand basic education core curriculum, students eleventh grade are able to use English for communicating in various situations, engaging in a livelihood and pursuing further education at higher levels. The main contents of English include four strands of study namely communication, culture, connection and community. To reach those level it is drawn in the teaching learning process. Those statement encourages the researcher to conduct a research to know about the practice of teaching speaking at Santitham school Nakhon, Thailand. The formulation of research problems were: 1) How are teaching speaking strategies at Santitham school Nakhon Thailand? 2) How are activities set to stimulate students to practice in speaking at Santitham school Nakhon Thailand?. The purposes of this research were to get information about teaching speaking at Santitham school Nakhon, Thailand academic year 2019/2020 which cover: 1) Strategies which are used in teaching speaking at Santitham school Nakhon Thailand. 2) Activities which are set to stimulate students‟ practice in speaking at Santitham school Nakhon Thailand. Research methodology applied in this research included: 1) The research design of this research was descriptive design with qualitative approach, 2) Subjects of this research are three English teacher and five students of eleventh grade of Santitham school as informants, 3) The data of this research were taken from interview with English teachers and students, observation and documentations, 4) The techniques of data verification in this research are using source trianggulation and technique trianggulation, 5) To analyze the data, the researcher conducted some steps include organizing and coding, summarizing, and interpreting the data.The research findings showed some information about teaching speaking included: 1) Strategies which were used in teaching speaking are: giving students regular practice in fluency and accuracy, providing appropriate feedback and correction, managing students‟ seating arrangement, applying group work or pair work, motivating the students, applying communicative game and song, giving students opportunities to encourage oral communication, using authentic material to motivate the students in learning speaking. 2) Activities that were conducted in teaching speaking are: discussion, conversation, promoting product, describing something, reading aloud, story telling, making video vlog, school programs: English club, English day, English camp, English tour, academic day, and goes to Penang.
