Keywords: American Slang, Types of slang, The Hangover Part III American slang is one part of development American English language. Slang is something interesting and familiar among teenagers. Studying slang is important because some slang terms have a less polite meaning, so when used American slang, there will not cause misunderstanding in communication. In the movie The Hangover Part III used a lot of American slang which is quite popular can also help people know about American Language culture in society. Thus, this study focuses on types of slang occurs in the movie The Hangover Part III. This study aims to investigate the types of slang and the meaning of American slang used in the movie The Hangover Part III. This study used descriptive qualitative approach and the researcher as the instrument of this study. The data of this study was all utterances that contain of American slang. The researcher collected the data use note taking method. This study uses the theory of Allan and Burridge (2006) in identifying types of slang. The results showed that there were 5 types of slang used in the film The Hangover Part III. Those are fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, acronym and clipping. The imitative is dominates the types of slang words used in the film The Hangover Part III. Slang is a word can easily be formed by imitating any word and simplifying it. Most of American slang used in this movie is to express anger in a difficult situation and to denounce other person. This research contributes to enrich the study about slang for linguistics development of sociolinguistics. This study hopes can inspire future researchers to conduct further research by other topics related to slang terms.
