Keywords : Duolingo, Vocabulary Mastery Vocabulary is the main and basic of language component which can solve the students’ problem in understanding the conversation in listening section, communicating well in Speaking practice and writing their ideas on the text in Reading and writing class. Sometimes, the students will face such difficulties in learning language especially English because of having limited vocabulary. Learners can be faster in learning English by having a large of total number in vocabulary mastery. Due to the evolution of technology, a modern learning language application named Duolingo facilitates for all levels of learners in acquiring language especially vocabulary mastery more enjoyable. The research problem of this study is formulated: Is there any significant difference score in between vocabulary mastery of students who are taught by using Duolingo and vocabulary mastery of students who are taught without using Duolingo at the seventh grade of MTS Subulussalam Sriwangi?. The purpose of this study is to discover whether there is any significant difference between vocabulary mastery of students who are taught by using Duolingo and vocabulary mastery of students who are taught without using Duolingo application at the seventh grade of MTS Subulussalam Sriwangi. This study is conducted to investigate the effectiveness of using Duolingo application in increasing students’ vocabulary mastery or another purposed to get an empirical effect of Duolingo application to the increasing of students’ vocabulary mastery. The research design in this study was quasi-experimental design with quantitative approach. The population of this study is the seventh grade of students at MTS Subulussalam Sriwangi. The samples involve VII A consists of 26 students as the experimental class where the control class consists of 25 students from VII B. This research used 20 multiple choice questions as the instrument. The researcher administered the test instrument in both experimental and controlled group for pre-test and post-test with 60 minutes as the time allocation. The researcher used T-test formula through SPSS 26 as the technique of data analysis. The finding showed that the mean achievement ofexperimental classwas higher than the mean achievement of the control class. The mean achievementof experimental class was 78.46 and 71.80 for the mean of the control group. The t-test was accumulated that T = 0.444, with the df = 51, and the p-value (two-tailed)was 0,009 which is lower than 0,05 (0,009 < 0,05). After looking at the result of t-test can be concluded that the null hypothesisis rejected while the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It can be assumed that thereis a significance difference score in vocabulary mastery between the students taughtby using Duolingo application and those taught without using Duolingo application.It concludes that The use of Duolingo application can give a positive effect in improving students’ vocabulary mastery at MTS Subulussalam Sriwangi in academic year 2020/2021.
