Abstract

Thesis by the title "Javanese Mysticism in Kyai Mustojo's Interpretation of Al-Fatihah" was written by Muhammad Masrofiqi Maulana, NIM 12503184003, Advisor: Dr. H. Ahmad Zainal Abidin, M.A, and Dr. Hj. Salamah Noorhidayati, M.Ag. Keywords: Javanese Mysticism, Sufistic Interpretation, and Symbolic Hermeneutics. This research against the backdrop of interpretation of K. Mustodjo on Surat Al-Fatihah does not show an linguistic content interpretation, and not describe as other interpreters who are more concerned with the synchronization between the text and the context surrounding the text. However, he prefers to read al-Fatihah in terms on the position of each word of al-Fatihah in the human body. In this research, the authors formulated the problem of this thesis: (1) How is the Sufistic interpretation of al-Fatihah Kyai Mustodjo?; (2) How is the interpretation of al-Fatihah Kyai Mustodjo in the view of Javanese mysticism? The research method in analyzing Javanese mysticism in Kyai Mustodjo's Manuscript is to use symbolic hermeneutics. The purpose of this research is to examine the problem of the meaning of Surat Al-Fatihah by Kyai Mustodjo, which shows that there has been a shift in the meaning of Surat Al-Fatihah from its original meaning, so that the mystical world of the interpreter is very influential on this way of interpretation. The results of the study concluded that: (1) K. Mustojo's Sufistic interpretation of al-Fatihah could be seen from the way he interpreted each word in al-Fatihah. And he was immersed in his Sufistic theory, so that he understood al-Fatihah with the anatomy of the human body. For him, the word of God in this case is that the Qur'an must be manifested in deeds and integrated with the anatomy of the human body. (2) Javanese mysticism greatly influenced K. Mustojo's interpretation, including sedulur papat, manunggaling kawula-Gusti and memayu hayuning bawana. And this interpretation was strongly influenced by tarekat he attended, it’s Syattariyah order. Because this tarekat was the most existing tarekat and was in great deman by the people of around Ponorogo at that time
