Abstract

Thesis with the title “The Effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) on Critical Thinking and Learning Motivation of Class VIII Students of MTs MBI Mambaul Falah Tambilung Gresik on Vibration and Wave Material” This is Written by Fitri Fernia Wati, NIM. 126211201013, Tadris Physics Study Program, UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung, Supervised by Mrs. Nani Sunarmi, S.Si., M.Sc. Keywords: problem-based-learning (PBL), critical thinking, learning motivation This research is motivated by the condition of students who have not been fully involved in the learning process and do not understand the phenomena that occur, so that it can cause low critical thinking skills of students. Students also still have difficulty in linking to everyday life. They are also less active in learning and are still lazy to do assignments from the teacher and even wait to be discussed together. This situation shows that students still have low learning motivation. This requires the use of learning models that can improve critical thinking skills and student learning motivation, one of which is the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. This study aims to determine whether or not there is an effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on critical thinking and learning motivation of 8th grade students of MTs MBI Mambaul Falah Tambilung on vibration and wave material. This study uses a quantitative approach, with the type of research Quasi Experimental Design with research design nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were all VIII grade students of MTs MBI Mambaul Falah Tambilung, totaling 96 students. The sampling technique used in the study was purposive sampling, which consisted of 2 classes, namely class VIII-A totaling 30 students as the control class and class VIII-B totaling 32 students as the experimental class. Data collection techniques using tests and questionnaires. Data analysis techniques in this study used instrument tests, prerequisite tests, and hypothesis tests. The results of this study indicate: 1) there is an effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning on critical thinking skills of 8th grade students of MTs MBI Mambaul Falah on vibration and wave material. This is evidenced based on the sig value. 0.000 < 0.05 which means that H-0 is rejected H-1 is accepted. 2) there is an effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning on learning motivation of class VIII MTs MBI Mambaul Falah on vibration and wave material. This is evidenced based on the sig value. 0.015 <0.05 which means that H-0 is rejected and H-1 is accepted. 3) there is an effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning on critical thinking skills and learning motivation of 8th grade students of MTs MBI Mambaul Falah on vibration and wave material. This is evidenced based on the sig value. 0.000 < 0.05 which means that H-0 is rejected and H-1 is accepted.
