Abstract

Alvin, Wejang En. Student Number 12851021019. 2024. Vocational High School English Teachers’ Perception and Attitude on Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) in Kediri. Thesis Department of English Education. Postgraduate. State Islamic University Tulungagung. Supervisor: Dr. Dwi Astuti Wahyu Nurhayati, S.S.M.Pd. and Dr. Susanto, M.Pd. Keywords: Online Learning Platform, Perception, EFL Learning Practices In this modern era, the use of technology in every aspect of life is very important. The world of education also applies this. Technology is integrated into the student learning process in many ways. In a narrower context, the technology used is mobile device technology. Mobile devices are a technology that everyone uses. Based on this, the world of education also uses it in the learning process, especially EFL. Exploring teachers' perceptions about the use of mobile device technology will be one of the important things at this time. Researchers used vocational high school English teachers in this research. By taking one of the small town areas in East Java. The research is based on the argument that the use of technology should continue to be developed to progress the learning process. This reason made researchers explore teacher perceptions and attitudes related to the implementation of mobile assisted language learning (MALL). A Mixed method was used in this research. Thirty-three vocational school English teachers were participants in this research. Data was taken through online surveys and interviews with several participants. The results of this research are divided into four aspects. In the first aspect, the researcher sought to find out about teachers' perceptions of the application of this technology and some of the advantages of implementing this. The results of this aspect are that the teacher agrees with the use of this and agrees to provide several benefits in the learning process. The second aspect is finding out about the problems teachers face. In the findings of this research, there are three problems that teachers often face, namely small screens on mobile devices, students lacking information in using smartphones for learning and teachers needing additional knowledge in software and applications related to MALL. The next aspect is the use of MALL by teachers at this time. The findings show that teachers are very familiar with implementing MALL in their classes. The final aspect is the teacher's ability to implement MALL. It was found that teachers were used to implementing it and their ability to design and implement it was good. However, it was found that some teachers had difficulty evaluating the implementation of MALL. Some of these findings show that MALL has a good or positive perception by English teachers at vocational high schools in Kediri. These findings can be a basis for implementing mobile assisted language learning (MALL) in the classroom, although in its implementation several difficulties were found by teachers in the classroom or in preparing for this.
