Keywords: English lecturers, teaching strategies, non – English department Teaching strategies is the way which is used by lecturers to teach students, in order to make the good atmosphere in the classroom. Teaching strategies help the teacher to reach the learning goals. It will be different when English lecturers teach in the non – English department. The quality of an educational institutions is affected by teaching and learning process and the teachers or lecturers themselves. The formulations of the research problems were: 1) What are the strategies used by the lecturers in teaching English for non – English department at IAIN Tulungagung? 2) How are the strategies used by the lecturers in teaching English for non – English department at IAIN Tulungagung? The purpose of this study were to: 1) To describe the teaching strategies used by the lecturers in teaching English for non – English Department at IAIN Tulungagung. 2) To describe how the teaching strategies were used by the lecturers in teaching English for non – English Department at IAIN Tulungagung. Research Method: 1) the research design in this study was descriptive design with qualitative approach, 2) the subjects of this study was English lecturers who teach in non – English department. The result showed that the English lecturers who teach non – English department used three kinds of teaching strategies, they were direct teaching strategy and cooperative learning teaching strategy, and the combination of direct teaching strategy and cooperative learning teaching strategy. Direct teaching strategy was used by the lecturers in the beginning of the teaching and learning process by this way such as, the lecturers explained the material in a detail description after introducing the material, lecturers used the interesting teaching media, give the students chance to practice or to participate in the class activity by using the teaching media in order to comprehend the material, measuring the students’ understanding by asking the relevant questions based on the instructional material, and there were many interactions or communications between the lecturers and the students. The cooperative learning used by this way such as, presented the information about the material by using the reading text or demonstrating the material to the students, creating the small group discussion that consisted the heterogeneous students, lecturers has a role as facilitator in this cooperative learning activity, lecturers guide the students in the group when they do the task. And then the combination of direct teaching strategy and cooperative learning teaching strategy, this combination applied in order to make students more understand and active in the teaching and learning process.
