Abstract
This research discusses the effectiveness of using the inquiry method on students' reading comprehension in descriptive texts for class VII students at MTsN 1 Blitar. The study motivated by the learning methods applied in class less varied, so students do not understand the material conveyed by educators, feeling bored, and learning outcomes are lacking optimal. The formulation of the problem in this research is, (1) Is there a significant difference in students' reading comprehension scores before and after being taught using the inquiry method? This research aims, (1) To find out significant differences in students' reading comprehension scores before and after being taught using the inquiry method. This research uses a type of experimental research with a quantitative experimental type approach with a One Group Pretest and Posttest Design. The population of this study was 36 students consisting of 1 class VII 7 at MTsN 1 Blitar. Sampling was determined using proportional random sampling technique. Research data was obtained from observations of student activities using observation sheet instruments and tests in the form of pretests and posttests. Next, the research data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results of this research show that The use of the inquiry method can improve the reading comprehension of descriptive text for class VII MTsN 1 Blitar students before giving treatment is very poor looking at the pre-test the highest is = 90 with an average = 75.28. After giving treatment then the post-test the highest score is = 100 with a mean = 93.89. This shows that there are differences clear before being given treatment and after being given treatment because of the results from the post-test is greater than the pre-test results. The experiment shows that the significance value is 0,000, the value obtained is significant. This shows that students' reading comprehension of descriptive text before being given treatment is less good than after being given treatment. Therefore, using the inquiry method is an effective way to improve reading comprehension of descriptive texts for class VII students at MTsN 1 Blitar.
