The study delves into the background of literature and its significance in understanding human spirit and experiences. It emphasizes that literature, including films, serves as a medium for conveying imaginative ideas, emotions, and experiences. The primary objective of this research is to analyze the personalities and development of the main characters in "The Green Mile." The study focuses specifically on John Coffey and Paul Edgecomb, examining their personalities through various aspects such as behavior, attitudes, and emotional descriptions. The scope of the study is limited to the characterization of these two main characters in the personality aspect, aiming to provide a detailed understanding of their roles and development throughout the film The research employs a qualitative method using library research. It draws upon previous studies on characterization and personality analysis in films, such as "An Analysis of Characterization of the Main Characters in ‘The Social Network’ Movie Script" by M. Muntaqif Latif (2016) and "An Analysis of the Main Characters’ Personality in Green Mile Movie" by Fadhlika Pangestika Putri (2021). The literature review covers definitions of key terms like character, personality, and characterization, as well as the role of mise-en-scene and dialogue in depicting character traits The study aims to provide insights into how the personalities of John Coffey and Paul Edgecomb contribute to the narrative of "The Green Mile." It hopes to attract readers' attention to the study of character personalities, enhancing students' understanding of characterization and promoting intrinsic motivation through film education. The findings are expected to serve as an inspiration for other researchers interested in character analysis in films, contributing to a broader understanding of personality development in cinematic narratives In conclusion, this thesis offers a comprehensive analysis of the main characters' personalities in "The Green Mile," highlighting the significance of character development in film studies. It underscores the importance of literature and film as mediums for conveying human experiences and emotions, contributing to a deeper understanding of character traits and their role in storytelling.
