Keywords: Teacher’s Practices, Teaching Speaking In learning a foreign language, the mastery of speaking skill is considered as a priority for the language learner. It becomes the measurement in determining someone mastering that language. Since there is no single magic formula for successful foreign language learning, it is important for the teacher to establish some strategies in teaching speaking. The teacher should know how the effective practice of teaching speaking is. The existence of appropriate material and media, teaching technique and activity provided should be in form of the act in improving student’s ability in speaking in and out of the class which is reflected in form of extracurricular program. Hence, it encouraged the researcher to conduct a research about teacher’s practices in teaching speaking at MAN 3 Blitar. Since the students of this school has good achievement in speaking. The general problem of this study is “How are practices employed by English teacher in teaching speaking at MAN 3 Blitar?” This problem can be specifically as 1) How is the practice of teaching speaking in the classroom of MAN 3 Blitar? 2) How is the practice of teaching speaking in extra-curricular program of MAN 3 Blitar? The general objective of this research is to describe the teacher’s practices in teaching speaking at MAN 3 Blitar. Then, the purpose can be specifically stated as : 1) to describe the practice of teaching speaking at MAN 3 Blitar 2) to describe the practice of teaching speaking in extra-curricular program of MAN 3 Blitar The research design of this study was descriptive design with qualitative approach. Data source of this research were English teacher of MAN 3 Blitar, the students of MAN 3 Blitar. The data of this research were obtained through conducting in-depth interview, doing observation, making field note, and documentation. Then, the data were analyzed using interactive analysis method by Miles and Huberman covering data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. To check the trustworthiness of data, the researcher used data source and methodological triangulation in this study. In term of using data source triangulation, the researcher checks the validity of the data by collecting the data through several sources. Meanwhile, the researcher also collected the data using more than one method. As result of this research, the researcher finds that there are some practices of teaching speaking in MAN 3 Blitar. The intracurricular practice is happen in the classroom when the English lesson is going. In facilitate this process of teaching learning, the teacher use the material from text book which is appropriate with the curriculum set by the government. Besides that, the teacher also uses the workbook from Intan Pariwara Publisher. In delivering this material, it is also supported by appropriate and up to date additional material and media. In addition, in delivering material, the teacher does some technique such use English as the main language in delivering material which is given both in fluency and accuracy, giving feedback and correction, always motivate students to practice English by giving a motto. The activity such discussion and presentation, and also role play is the commonly used in teaching speaking at MAN 3 Blitar. Moreover, in assessing the student’s speaking skill, the teacher use oral language assessment based on the student’s speaking performance which is assessed use speaking scoring rubric. Besides having the process of teaching and learning speaking in the classroom in form of English lesson, the process of teaching English out of the classroom also done in form of speaking class, study club, English fun day, and an English course. This kind of program is as the additional program given by the school to facilitate and improve student ability in English. By applying teaching and learning both inside and outside of class, the students are demanded to active speak English and the goal of this school can be realized.
