Abstract
ABSTRACT Zumaila, Latifah Iva Register Number. 1 723143095.2018 The Practice of Functional Communication Activity Done by the English Teacher at MTsN Tunggangri. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Depatment. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung Advisor: Dr. Susanto, S.S., M.Pd Keywords: Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), functional communication activity, English teacher Functional communication activity is one types of activity in Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), This classroom activity emphasizes on functional aspect of communication to solve the problem in particular classroom activity. The functional communication activity comprises two activities that using language to share information activity and using language to process information activity. The primary goal is for developing students’ English communication to be more communicative. The formulations of the research problems were: 1) How does the teacher implement share information activity to facilitate the students to speak English at MTsN Tungangri? 2) How does the teacher implement process information activity to facilitate the students to speak English MTsN Tungangri? 3) To what extend are both share information and process information activities contributive to stimulate the students to the practice their English MTsN Tungangri? Research Method: 1 ) the research design of the study was descriptive design with qualitative approach, 2) the subjects of this study was the English teacher. The result of the study showed that first, the English teacher implemented of share information conducted with activity called discovering differences and addition, the teacher implemented activity called discovering secret in previous meeting class. Those, included in mains group of functional communication activity that sharing information with unrestricted cooperation and sharing information with restricted cooperation. Second, the English teacher implemented of process information with evaluated the topic was taught. She gave evaluation or feedback such as give some question, check the pronunciation and check for error language sentences while they were sharing their information orally. Third, students progress of those activity that they could to develope their speaking ability to be more communicative, got new vocabularies and more critical thingking to solve the problem.
