Advisor: Faizatul Istiqomah, M.Pd. Ketword: Motivation, Thai Students, EFL Learning This research is based on the rise of Thai students studying in Indonesia, such as at IAIN Tulungagung. What kind of motivation does the Thai students have to learn far from where they live. Motivation is combination of desire and effort made to achieve a goal. Motivation is one of the influential factors in learning. The success of learning depends on high or low motivation of students. Motivation can drive the learners in reaching learning goal. By having motivation students will be enthusiastic in teaching learning process so they will be pushed to study English well. When the students are lack of motivation in learning English, they feel not enjoy studying so they will show poor attitude when teaching and learning process. As the result they will not achieve their study well. The formulation of the research problems were: 1) How are the intrinsic motivation of Thai students in learning English in IAIN Tulungagung? 2) How are the extrinsic motivation of Thai students in learning English in IAIN Tulungagung?. The purpose of this research were to: 1) Give explanation about Thai students’ intrinsic motivation in learning English in IAIN Tulungagung, 2) Give explanation about Thai students’ extrinsic motivation in learning English in IAIN Tulungagung. This research uses descriptive qualitative research design. The methods used in data collection techniques are interviews and documentation. The steps are data reduction, data presentation, and data verification or drawing conclusions. Meanwhile, to check the validity of the findings using dependability and credibility. The result of this study is the motivation of Thai students in learning English at IAIN Tulungagung in the intrinsic motivation of Thai students that there is interest in learning English, the aspiration to be able to speak english, and the purpose in learning english. While the extrinsic motivation of Thai students is the expectation and encouragement of parents to keep the spirit of learning English, environmental factors provide additional motivation in learning English, and peers who can add the spirit to be more active in learning English, and get reward will give a sense pleasure or satisfaction even if the activities are not in accordance with the wishes.
