Abstract
ABSTRACT Ma’rifah, Lia Sirrul. NIM. 1723143098. 2018. The Effectiveness of Using Dictogloss Strategy in Teaching Listening Comprehension at The Tenth Grade of SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung Academic Year 2017/2018. Sarjana Thesis English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. H. Nursamsu, M.Pd. Keywords: Listening Comprehension, Dictogloss Strategy. In the learning process, students do more listening than speaking, reading, and writing since students’ are more listening teacher’s explanation in the classroom. Students need to practice listening comprehension in the classroom to help them in understanding of spoken messages. Yet, the teacher implements listening comprehension infrequently in the classroom. In this case, dictogloss come as the appropriate strategy to help them since this strategy can encourage students to make prediction and identify the text/spoken messages. The research problem of this research is “Do the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung who learn listening comprehension by using dictogloss strategy achieve better than those students who learn listening comprehension without using Dictogloss strategy?” The aim of this research is “to investigate the effectiveness of the use of Dictogloss strategy in increasing the students’ listening comprehension at the tenth grade of SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung.” This research used Quasi-Experimental Research by using Nonrandomized Control Group, Pretest-Posttest design. This design is conducted with two groups which both experimental group (group that taught by using dictogloss strategy during listening comprehension lesson) and control group (group that taught without dictogloss strategy during listening comprehension lesson) are given pretest and posttest. This research used Purposive Samplingin sampling technique since the researcher knew from the teacher that both class AK 1 (36 students) and class AK 2 (35 student) have same level in learning English. The technique of data analysis used Independent Sample T-test which was used to find out the difference of students’ gained score mean in listening comprehension between experimental group and controlled group. The result showed the mean of students’ gained score in experimental group was 14.86 and the mean of students’ gained score in controlled group was 5.57. The mean of posttest in experimental group was 77.36 and the mean of posttest in controlled group was 65.86. Then, The significant value is smaller than the significant level (0.000 < 0.05). In other words, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means that dictogloss strategy was effective in teaching listening comprehension at the tenth grade of SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung in academic year 2017/2018.
