Key words: Effectiveness, Narrative Text, Silent Video Many students of senior high school felt difficult when the teacher asked them to write a text. It becomes a problem for students in writing. The problem happened because many teachers still use same medium in teaching. Some problems that found is students low in organizing idea, students lack in vocabulary, students low in grammar, students low in mechanics language. To help students to solve this problem, the teacher should be able to find a teaching medium that makes student interest in writing. Silent video can be used as a teaching medium to help teachers in teaching writing, especially in teaching writing narrative text, because silent video and narrative text are almost the same. The problems of this study: Is there any significant difference on students’ ability in writing narrative text before and after being taught by using silent video? Based on the research problem, the purpose of this study is to know if there is any significant difference on students’ ability in writing narrative text before and after being taught by using silent video. This study used quantitative approach, exactly in pre-experimental design. The population of this study was all students at tenth grade of MA Al-Muslihun, Tunggangri in the academic year 2017/2018. The sample of this study was 31 students of X MIA that chosen by purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used was test. The researcher analyzed the data by using Paired Sample T-test with IBM SPSS Statistics 16.0. The finding showed that there is any significant difference between the results of pre-test and post-test. The mean of pre-test was 57.35, while the mean of post-test was 65.23. It means that there was increasing score on the students’ ability. From statistical calculation of T-test showed that the significance value was 0.000. It was smaller than standard significance level (0.05) or 0.000<0.05. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Therefore, silent video tasking is effective to the students’ ability in narrative text at the tenth grade of MA Al-Muslihun, Tunggangri. In other words, the use of silent video tasking can be an alternative medium to teach writing narrative text at MA Al-Muslihun, Tunggangri.
